Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat provided technical assistance to IFB Jaffy with 10 fishermen onboard which was adrift 90 N miles south west of Mumbai since AM 05th February due to breakdown of steering gear.

On sighting the adrift boat, the ICG technical team was immediately deployed to provide necessary assistance. On embarking the IFB, the technical team promptly identified that the coupling flange of steering gear linkage rod was sheared off from shaft rendering.

The defective component was brought onboard ICG ship for in-situ repairs and the defect was rectified by machining, aligning and precise welding. Thereafter, the ICG technical team boarded the IFB again and assisted in fitment of the repaired steering shaft which resulted in restoration of steering gear. Thus, the IFB was made operational and resumed fishing activity.

Timely assistance rendered to the IFB in distress by the ICG technical team averted a potential SAR situation and reinstated the faith of fishing populace on ICG.
