Capt JC Anand, one of the founder member of The Company of Master Mariner of India (CMMI) and the one who was instrumental in setting up the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and the Indian P&I Club turned 100 this year. Being the senior most member of Indian shipping industry, Capt JC Anand has achieved innumerable accolades throughout his professional journey.
To honor his achievements and Excellency, CMMI celebrated the legend’s 100th birthday at its 64th Annual Dinner at MCA, Mumbai on 05th March.
Capt BK Jha, Master, CMMI said, “Capt JC Anand continues to inspire us.”
In respect to Capt JC Anand, a portrait was made by seafarer and a beautiful 3 layer sea cake with a sail boat on the top, compass and anchor was made by seafarer’s family. Poems were recited by seafarer’s daughter and Mr Abdulgani Serang of NUSI.
Capt JC Anand was overwhelmed with the love showered upon him by the industry. He spoke about his time when they went aboard and all they use to hear is India cannot do it. “But God gave the courage to go into the uncharted waters where a group helped me to move ahead,” said Capt Anand.
“We formed CMMI in 1957, over the years CMMI flag is kept high and they have moved ahead and today CMMI stands worldwide,” added Capt Anand.
The young evening after two long years was filled with music, cocktails and laughter.
