Just being good is never enough for Campbell Shipping Pvt Ltd, as they are always striving for excellence. As COVID cases in the country have subsided, the sailing and non-sailing staff of Campbell came together to deliberate on Pursuing Excellence on 13th May at The Club, Mumbai. Welcoming the seafarers Mr Lowell J Mortimer, Chairman, Campbell and Non-Resident high commissioner of The Bahamas to India said, “Campbell’s idea is to create excellence and work towards excellence. When the company motto was setup- safety was and is our priority, but excellence is our commitment.”
In his opening remarks, Capt Rajesh Dhadwal, Managing Director and CEO, Campbell cited – The success is sweeter if you have tasted the bitterness of the failure, and gave assurance that the company will continue on the journey of Excellency. “Excellence is not a matrix, it is a state of mind, a way of being,” he added.
To achieve that kind of Excellency, the right people in the right positions are important for an organisation. “Getting the right people in the business and then keeping them focused on excellence is one of the important elements found in research about companies,” said Mrs Vibhavari Bali, while presenting on Human Capital. She further added, “It is essential to identify and develop our people from within.”
“People who strive for excellence can accept that mistakes are inevitable and value what they learn from them; they do not let mistakes define them,” stated Capt Venkat Kesav while presenting Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ). He also explained in detail the systems implemented by Campbell for the betterment of the seafarers.
Achieving excellence is not easy as it seems, a company has to pass through enormous hurdles. “Uncertainty on the global issue, supply chain Disruption, global inflation, increased costs of travel and freight and congestion in shipyards, are great challenges during last year for the industry,” opined Mr Amit Ghosh, Fleet Technical Manager, Campbell. He also touched upon inventory management and why inventory management should be given importance.
Principal Architect Mr Suresh Govidhan spoke about Business Intelligence and gave an introduction to MARI Apps and its key products and components. He also explained in detail how MARI Apps has become a global presence.
Mr Lasse Jensen of Ashley Group gave a brief introduction about his company and its relation with Campbell. “Since our partnership with Campbell in 2019, our aim is similar to achieving excellence. We are striving towards excellence, not only perfection,” said Mr Jensen. He delivered several case studies on the Time charter versus the Voyage Charter.
Post lunch session witnessed several activities for Integration: Mind and Body to check seafarer’s unfailing spirit to learn, to teach them that excellence has no bounds and joy follows excellence. The session conducted by Mr Homi Bharda, CCO was meant for seafarers to realise how strong their inner command is. Seafarers and other staff actively participated in all the activities.
This year Campbell invited Ms Akshaya Mondkar, Wellness Coach to speak about Health and Nutrition. She delivered a brief session on Dos and Don’ts for living a healthy lifestyle.
Capt Simon Rapley, Divisional Director, Britannia P&I spoke about P&I and his company.
Presentations were followed by a question and answer session and Capt Venkat Kesav thanked the speakers and the seafarers for gracing the event and making it successful after a two-year gap.
After the deliberations, the seafarers and management enjoyed the evening with music, cocktails, and dinner.
