The Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI) announced the commencement of their online Extra Master Class Part B Course on 1st July via the Zoom platform. “In this competitive world, extra qualification and the extra course is required. Though the course existed in India in the 1970s, it was stopped due to poor response, we at CMMI have decided to bring back the course right from the scratch,” said Capt Kaustubh Pradhan, Deputy Master, CMMI during his welcome speech.
Capt BK Jha, Master, CMMI has been instrumental in this preparing this course. While delivering his opening address, Capt Jha explained the struggles he underwent to prepare for this course. Capt Jha said, “We have revamped the course to introduce some modern value and removed some old topics.” Furthermore, he mentioned that CMMI is also working on an E-MBA course for those who want to join management work after coming ashore.
The faculty members enlightened everyone about the importance of the Extra Masters Course. “This is a serious study of the professional subject,” said Capt Suneel Sule, Faculty and Principal, Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy. Capt Ravi Budhraja spoke his views about the course and stated that one needs to read, study and understand the concept rather than focusing on the commercial aspects. “Join this course with a view of attaining knowledge and not just for a certificate,” opined Capt Sudhir Chaudhari.
Capt Ashok Mahapatra expressed that the traditional role of teacher and student has changed, now it is about the relationship between the mentor and the mentee. He said the Extra Master course gave me confidence and declared the Part B of the Extra Master Course open.
The Guest of honour Capt KP Jayakumar, Nautical Advisor, Government of India said that anyone who wants to come ashore needs to have some management knowledge. “Earlier, we did not have too many people who wanted to do this course by taking a break from the ship, so the course died out,” stated Capt Jayakumar. He appreciated CMMI for bringing in the course again in India and said, “CMMI has risen to the task by bringing the experts and this syllabus was taken from different parts of the world.”
As the shipping industry matures in India, one of the natural foreseen changes over the next few years will be a requirement of higher-level qualifications. Having a ‘good’ qualification reflects your professional pride. This is the best way to stand out from the crowd. “Knowledge is power, Knowledge has a starting point, but it never ends,” with this statement Capt MP Bhasin, Secretary-General, CMMI concluded the curtain-raiser session of the Part B Course.
After which the classes commenced. The new students of the batch were excited and shared their happiness and expectations from this course.
