The shipping giant MSC Shipmanagement moved closer to its vision, mission, and values, by celebrating the team’s strength for attaining bountiful success, while motivating them to achieve newer heights at a function organized in Mumbai on the 8th August at the ITC Grand. A Seminar was conducted with the theme MSC SHIPMANAGEMENT – CLOSER TO OUR VISION AND MOVING TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
Addressing the gathering, Captain MP Bhasin, MD, MSC Crewing Services India, welcomed all and said, “Our Seafarers are our heroes and their families who have contributed to our continuous success, we are indebted to them. Our staff at sea and on ashore are our partners, and while we celebrate today the unstoppable and unwavering spirit of the MSC family, MSC wants to give a message to the world, that we care, value feedback, and work for the betterment of our services, and we say to our employees -stay resilient, stay happy, and on a lighter note, party hard.”
Keynote address was given by Mr Prabhat Jha, Group Managing Director & CEO covering the Company’s growth, Company’s contribution in the De Carbonization, Different fuel system in use. Company’s saving on fuel cost by applying the Silicon coating on the vessel’s hull and Propellor and in addition modification to the vessel’s Bulbous bow. Company’s progress on the EEXI (Efficiency Existing Ship Index) & CII was also discussed with all the participants. In the coming year company’s aim to have the Electronic Logbooks on board all vessels. Mr Jha gave insight to the MSC growth, its future projects and an excellent reach out to seafarers and maritime industry by developing various innovative programs.
MSC provides equal opportunities, and empowering women and celebrating the power of women define MSC values. The organization takes pride in naming its vessels namely MSC RIKKU, MSC RIDA, MSC LEANDRA, and MSC SHANELLE and others after the daughters of seafarers, masters, ch/engineers and also daughters of office employees.
The highlight of the event was the MSC Felicitations, wherein Ms. Bhumika Nankani of T S Chanakya – hailing from Surat in Gujarat was awarded the ‘Best Female Cadet of the Year” award by Mr Prabhat Jha, CEO & Group MD and Ms. Nita. Jha, Head of Group HR & Support Services at MSC Shipmanagement Ltd., Cyprus, recipient of the ‘Women in Maritime Award’ for “Excellence in People Management Strategy”.
“It was way back in 2019, when MSC started the movement to bring more women seafarers from India into the shipping industry. Then MSC instituted an annual award ‘Best Female Cadet of the Year” in all IMUs institutes and various other maritime institutes in India. The award carried a rolling trophy, a certificate, a medal and a cash prize of Rupees ten thousand.
The first of such award was given by Dr. Malini Shankar in IMU-Cochin.
MSC also honored many of their seafarers and office staff for their dedicated service of over 10 years to the company.
A brief presentation was also showcased on the MSC Group. This group is a privately owned organization driven by the Aponte Family. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, MSC has evolved as a world leader in container shipping to expand global operations.
Today, it has a fleet of 730 vessels with 150,000 employees working across the globe. MSC cargo division covers 260+ routes, across 520 ports, and has a presence in 135 countries.
The MSC Global Mercy Ship provides healthcare services to those in need, and a new addition to this is about to enter service in Africa in 2023. Adhering to the need for sustainable fuels, the group adheres to technological advancements with its latest vessel MSC Washington, which has a capacity of 14,000 TEU vessels. The vessel is the world’s largest C-type LNG fuel vessel launched on 24th March 2022, which is operated with Dual fuel LNG gas. The vessel makes India proud to be the first duel-fuel container ship that is fully manned by Indians. Meanwhile, the MSC TESSA is the largest container vessel launched on 1st August 2022 at Hudong Shipyard, China, with a capacity of 24,116 TEU, it was announced this vessel will also be fully manned by Indians.
MSC has retained a consistent employment rate of 97% from 2017-2010, and now it has raised it to 98.5% in 2022.
The MSC Training Academy in Noida in collaboration with IMI has state-of-the-art cruise ship equipment for Galley, Restaurant, Housekeeping, etc. Recently the Director General of Shipping, Mr. Amitabh Kumar, IRS & Mr Prabhat Jha inaugurated two new simulators -the LNG Bunkering Simulator and the ME/RT Flex Engine simulator at MSC Training Academy in Noida.
MSC Crewing Services has been bestowed with many awards including the “Best Foreign Employer of Indian seafarers” on the National Maritime Day 2022 at NDMC celebrations, by Honorable Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Shripad Naik, and the DG Shipping.
There were many shipping personalities and seafarers with their families attending the event which was huge success. The set-up of the event was extraordinary, and amazing and gave a great ambience to the event.
All enjoyed the cultural event and gala dinner.
