The Union Minister, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ayush Government of India, Mr Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off the Maritime Awareness Walkathon to commemorate the 60th National Maritime Day in the presence of Union Minister of State, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Tourism, Government of India in Delhi on April 5th.
Highlighting the importance of National Maritime Day, Mr Sonowal said, “I take this opportunity to congratulate and salute seafarers for their valuable contribution to the nation’s economic growth.” Mr Sonowal encouraged more women to join the maritime sector and then invited a young lady cadet on the stage to share her experience.
Remembering SS Loyalty’s maiden voyage, Mr Naik emphasised the need to encourage more youth to join the maritime industry for the growth of the nation. “India is a blessed with a long coastline and we must provide the facility and connectivity through Sagar Mala and other programs under the guidance of Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi,” expressed Mr Naik stated.
Mr Sudhansh Pant, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways stated that this is a very important moment remembering the contribution of the seafaring community who have contributed a lot in the growth of nation and maritime industry.
Mr Sonowal and Mr Naik released Look Seawards – special edition dedicated to National Maritime Day that was published by Marex Media and curated by AMICIE in the presence of CEO, IMI Capt Saurabh Varshney.
The articles in ‘Look Seawards’ are penned by the well-informed contributors of the shipping industry to draw the attention to the decision-makers to accelerate the growth of all sectors of Indian Shipping industry.
Dignitaries of the marine fraternity like Capt. R. Poswal Chairman of NMDC, Delhi, Capt Kharbanda, and other committee members of the NMDC, Delhi graced the event.
