Celebrating the Values of Teamwork

As individuals, how many milestones in your life do we celebrate? Many of us only mark our birthdays and anniversaries. It’s important that we celebrate all of our milestones and major accomplishments. Celebrating gives us a sense of achievement, and it’s a great way of rewarding ourselves for a job well done. Comprehending this thought very well, Campbell Shipping Private Limited organised their annual seminar titled – Celebrating Our Core Value Teamwork on 17th February at the grandeur Sea Princess Hotel in Mumbai. The seminar began with the traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony by Mr Lowell J Mortimer and Mrs Cynthia Constantakis.

In his crisp address, Mr Mortimer, Chairman of the Board of Campbell appreciated the ongoing endeavours of the seafarers and shore staff for taking Campbell to great heights. “It is a great pleasure to be here. You all are very important to organisation those on the ships, and those also working in the offices. My special thanks to the seafarers, I would say you are very more important to us, as you take great care of our only assets that’s our ships. To all this we are grateful,” expressed Mr Mortimer.
Captain Rajesh Dhadwal, MD/CEO gave a brief presentation on a rescue operation where he mentioned that with a combined individual strength we can do great things. “We have the energy with us, and we can do extraordinary things with teamwork,” he added.

On personal time, Captain Dhawal insisted, “Please take time off to look after your spiritual or emotional wellbeing. Take adequate rest. Remember doing karma is in our hands only. Results is not in our hands. So focus on doing the best at all times.”

In an interesting presentation on Health is the real Wealth, Ms Akshaya Mondkar, Group Nutritionist said, “with a sound body, mind and soul you can achieve anything.” She then described the mantras for food and health that would be essential for one’s life.

She concluding saying, “Being healthy is the ultimate destiny, and with good health all other works are accomplished.”

From the technical perspective, Mr Amit Ghosh, Fleet Technical Manager (Chartered Engineer) spoke elaborately on Teamwork through Digitalization. He highlighted the advantages of a digital system, such as: prompt decisions, ability to work remotely, monitoring trends, round the clock operations, ability to work as a team, and transparency.

On Learning and Development, Mr Lekhak Thapa, Manager HR spoke on learning, productivity, identifying skills, gap filing for seafarers, well equipped technical competency marketing, CCO training, and behavioural competency mapping before joining a vessel. He said, “This Annual Program is a onetime pan India sea shore start from the sea with all staff here to celebrate and enjoy our time, further our philosophy is to provide an opportunity to all our seafarers to grow in their personal and professional careers.”

Mr Jacob Damgaard, Associate Director – Loss Prevention, Britannia P&I Club talked about Loss prevention, common bulk carrier issues, Hull & machinery, war risk insurance, loss profit freight insurance, strike insurance, personal injury, damage to property, IMSBC code, hatch covers & ventilation.

Mr Jurgen Bailom, President & CEO – Cordelia Cruises gave a brief about their partnership with Campbell shipping and articulated the success and challenges the cruise industry faces. He said ‘We have 3,50,000 happy guests, 120 million people market and that the success story of Cordelia- the luxury ship.”

Captain Venkat Kesav, Fleet HSEQ – Risk Manager/DPA gave a presentation on HSEQ – Managing Risk is a teamwork. On fleet freight, he said, “Top 5 use of tools-risk alert system, risk management, safety standards, pre-arrival and check list”. He focused on efficient team work, regulatory Industry, knowledge sharing, complete transmission, tool box, technical manual focus, flagship fleet doc and vessel rating, cooling period, E cargo, teamwork and that seafarers are the main driving force of the team facing the hardships who act as support.

Mr Homi Bharda made an illuminating presentation on Psychology of Teamwork, which covered various elements such as: value, virtue and individual responsibility. He laid emphasis on taking the first step for transformation of one’s life and said that the whole is greater than the sum of its party and that everything is interdependent and interrelated. “Our behaviour depends on how we relate to build teamwork and we should focus our joining with a group and the energy will flow,” he concluded.

Mr Felix Knick and Mr Lasse Jensen gave a commercial presentation on wet cargo and dry cargo with core values of Campbell shipping on safety, integrity, accountability, commitment, excellence and team work. They further said that they were happy to see seafarers communicate on a daily basis.

Ms Preeti Mundhra proposed the vote of thanks and thereafter a small birthday celebration was held for Luis Esmaeal.

After an intense day of theoretical, the evening was young with the top management and employees unwinding to the live music, cocktails and dinner. The management took this opportunity to felicitate the employees for their outstanding contributions to the company; titled Campbell shipping Rewards and Recognition in celebrating achievements.

The “5 year of company service 2022” Award was presented by Mr. Thomas Sands & Mr. Huebert Chipman to Mr. Siluvai Mathew, Mr. Crawton, Mr. Gaurav Sonawane, Mr. Esmaeal Luis, Mr. Levis Fernandes, Mr. Johan D’mello, Mr. Amit Gosh & Mr. Alian Pinto.

The “Emerging Leader of the year 2022” Award was given to Capt. Jatindar Chada, while the Purchase team was given the “Shining team of the year” Award, the “Gem of the year” Award was given to Ms. Priyanka Rahate & Ms. Deepali Shah, while the “Exceptional Leadership of the year 2022” was given to Mr. Alan Pinto.

“Others working on the Vessel 2022” Award was given to Mr. Ashok Yadav & Mr. Sourabh Goswami, “Michilein Star of the year 2022” Award- was given to Mr. Ramesh Muniyar & Mr. Mathew Moncy, “Best performing vessel of the year 2022” Award was given to Mr. C.S. Jola, the “Seafarer of the year 2022” Award was given to Mr. Ashok Yadav, “Rising star 2022” Award was given to Capt. Karallyade.

The “10 year of company service” Award was presented by Mr. Mortimes & Mrs. Cynthia to Mr. Khopekar Rahil, Mr. Nelson Kumar, Mr. Vijay Kumar, Mr. Denis Khristi, Mr. Bruno Mascarenhas, Mrs. Sandra Sequeira & Mr. Manoj Nair.
