Industry bodies Maritime Association of Shipowners Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA) and Foreign Owners Representatives and Ship Managers Association (FOSMA) jointly held a farewell dinner for Mr Amitabh Kumar, Ex DG (Shipping), MoPSW, to mark the completion of his successful tenure of over seven years.
The event was held on 11th April at The Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai.
The farewell function, though very informal, was attended in large numbers by the who’s who of the industry, along with Mr Rajeev Jalota, the newly appointed DG (Shipping), who expressed his gratitude towards the outgoing DG Mr Kumar.
Capt Sankalp Shukla, Chairman, FOSMA in his opening remarks welcomed everyone; greeting both the respected dignitaries – Mr Kumar and Mr Jalota.
Thereafter, Capt Girish Phadnis, Chairman, MASSA, shared his thoughts recalling the COVID era when Mr Kumar had stood like a rock with the industry for the safe return of Indian seafarers stuck on ships across the globe.
Capt Rajesh Tandon, CEO FOSMA, felicitated Mr Jalota, who assured all present of his complete support to the industry.
Acknowledging the honor and gratitude, Mr Kumar noted that it was only with the industry’s support that he had been successful in most of his endeavors during his long and eventful stint of 7 years.
Capt SM Halbe, CEO, MASSA concluded with the vote of thanks, acknowledging the presence of the many industry stalwarts. He mentioned that while Mr Kumar was definitely the one who had made the DGS office an industry-friendly one, the assurance from Mr Jalota to take this legacy forward was most heartening, and the industry is all set to grow in the right direction with his help in future.
