Pics & Caps: Capt Sureen Narang, Capt Sankalp Shukla and Capt Rajesh Tandon
The FOSMA Maritime Institute & Research Organization (FMIRO), located at Noida, an ISO 9000-2015 certified centre has a double-win this month.
In the Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) conducted by Indian Register of Shipping in May 2023, the FMIRO centre at Noida has been awarded “Outstanding” A1 grade. The Institute has also for the first time ever crossed the threshold of 300 students.
Talking about the twin achievements, Capt Sureen Narang, Principal FMIRO Noida, said, “It was all because of the team work here by the admin staff and our experienced faculty that we were able to cross the threshold of admissions of 300 students for the first time ever.
“Earlier, we had received the Audit Award for maintaining a systematic, organized approach for documents/ records and transparency across the spectrum.”
FOSMA Chair, Capt Sankalp Shukla said, “It is indeed a pleasure to note that FMIRO Noida has more than 300 students attending various courses.
“This shows the commitment and quality of training provided by the institute and this being recognized by our seafarers too. We congratulate the faculty and Principal of our institute in Noida.”
Capt Rajesh Tandon, FOSMA CEO, was very pleased with developments at FMIRO, Noida. He informed, “The number of students on the rolls were consistently over 300, averaging 307. Crossing this threshold of 300 translates into more than 75% of our overall approved capacity and we would like to record our appreciation for the entire team at NOIDA.
“I would also like to personally thank the students who have time and again reposed their trust in our faculty and our training capabilities, to help with their career progression.”
FOSMA’s Training initiatives were commenced in the early 1990’s to bridge the training facilities’ gap that existed at the time, for seafarers to progress their careers. To meet the ever growing demand the FOSMA Maritime Center, an owned facility, was set up in 2012 at Noida. The Centre conducts DGS approved post-sea Competency, Modular & Simulator-based programmes at this State-of-the-art facility that operates on a ‘not for profit’ basis.
Adhering to promote gender equality (UNDP goal 5 Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative) and employment opportunities for women in the Maritime Industry, the institute offers 50% subsidy to girl / women participants for all courses.
