OSM Maritime Group and Thome Group have merged to create a new ship management company called OSM Thome.
Announcing that the authorities have approved the merger of the OSM Maritime Group and Thome Group at its town hall launch ceremony held at The Radisson Blu Hotel in Mumbai, Finn Amund Nordbye, CEO, OSM GROUP said in his online address, “This is a big day for OSM Thome. Our merger is now formally and finally approved.
“The merged company combines proud traditions with high ambitions. Our business is based on Norwegian maritime skills and with skilful employees in leading shipping locations across the world, we will strengthen our position as an innovative and world-leading supplier of ship management services; for these two companies already had so much in common such as Norwegian ownership, business philosophy, values and view of the future.
“With over 30 offices around 22 countries, and headquartered in Arendal, Norway, the new company will be built on the best from OSM Maritime as well as Thome continuing strong, skilled professional environments. The integration process will be done in a fast and proper manner and in good dialogue with employees at the various offices. “It’s all about people” has been OSM’s hallmark for many years, and remains a core credo for the merged company.
“The company has decided who will join CEO Finn Amund Norbye in the management group. A team of skilled, & experience maritime hands will contribute to developing the business in a way that serves the customers, 2,000 employees onshore, and our 29,000 seafarers.”
Expressing his delight and honour to be part of the India-event that marks the launch of a new Norwegian company, OSM Thome, HE Mr Arne Jan Flølo, The Royal Norwegian Consul General Mumbai stated, “OSM and Thome are large players in the global ship management arena. With this merger there will be about 1000 ships under the new company’s management. This makes it of the absolute largest ship management companies in the world.”
On Norway’s relation with India, he added that Norway has a very long maritime history also here in India. “I am very pleased to see the birth of a new company with such a strong presence in India.”
“I would like to congratulate all the staff of the two companies which now becomes ONE, and I wish the company and you all the very best of success and prosperity for the future,” he concluded.
Capt Vipan Talwar, Director, OSM Thome expressed, “We are here to witness one of the largest mergers. This also means that we have to deliver to our customers to meet their expectations. Our merger will also generate more jobs for Indian seafarers.
Appreciating all the dignitaries Capt Arun Mehta, MD, OSM Thome said, “It’s a momentous occasion and rarely one could witness such a spectacular merger; an event making in history, and we are all part of it. We are sure as OSM Thome, we will grow to new strengths in India.”
With its fleet including tank, bulk, container, car ships and offshore vessels serving global leading shipping companies, the OSM Thome ship management fleet will be nearly 450 ships strong, whereas crewing will include about 550 additional ships.
