Understanding and recognising the importance of employees’ contributions, such organisations help increase the employees’ motivation and ability to take pride in their work. This ideology was witnessed at the MTM Crew Safety titled – Serving MTM with Pride on 18th & 19th April at The Lalit in Mumbai.
Capt Girish Phadnis, Director & Country Head, MTM Ship Management India Pvt Ltd warmly greeted the gathering and expressed his elation on meeting them post covid. “It’s good to see you all post covid. These two days are lined up to enhance your existing skills and knowledge and to keep you abreast with the latest technologies the industry is adopting. So make the most of it.”
Welcoming the crew, shore staff, owners and seniors, Capt Rajiv Singhal, Managing Director stated that he was looking for an interactive seminar over the 2 days. He refreshed the vision and mission with the officers and senior management, and said, “Safety is our top-most priority. To provide safe and efficient service to our clients, we need to work together and our thoughts should be in alignment with the company’s vision and mission statement.”
On safety, he stated that error is normal. “However, we have to see the cause of how the error occurred, and rectify it immediately. Response to failure matters,” he spotlighted.
“This is a learning platform. Let’s look forward to a fruitful seminar,” saying this Capt Singhal set the stage for an exclusive interactive deliberations that were lined up over the two days.
Speaking extensively on MTM Decarbonization Initiatives (EMP) was Mr Rajneesh Atre, Deputy General Manager, who apprised that the seafarers play an important role in maintaining the accuracy of data entry while sailing.
In sync with Mr Atre’s presentation on the importance of accurate data entry, Mr Shashank Ajmani, Vessel Performance Manager & Mr Hariharan Sankaran, General Manager stated that the seafarer on duty should be careful to monitor and get accurate CII ratings for every voyage when filling the noon report.
Capt Anupam Chaturvedi, Head of Fleet Personnel formally introduced the manning team, which is the lifeline for every crew operations of MTM. The officers and guests appreciated the team for their dedication, hard work, and giving round the clock support to every call or email that comes their way. Kudos Team Manning!
The other deliberations for the day included; Voyage optimization – Capt Samir Kumar, Marine Manager; M/E Performance monitoring – Mr Dharmesh Panchal, Fleet Manager & Mr Sankaran; PSC performance – Capt Arjun Chowdhari, Manager HSQE / DPA/CSO; Vetting Performance – Capt Samir Kumar, Marine Manager & Mr Sankaran; Manifold PPE – Capt Kumar; HW permits – Capt Bhupendra Ambekar, Sr Marine Superintendent; Enclosed Space Entry – Capt Kumar; and Fire Incidents – Capt Anjeet D’cruz, Marine Manager.
After productive discussions, the officers, management and guests unwind themselves to some soothing music and friendly chitchat.
On Day 2, Capt Singhal gave a recap of day 1, thereafter the participants were divided into two groups Deck and Engine. Topics discussed for deck officers were Structural failures, Tank cleaning & Navigation – Capt Kumar; Security – Capt Chowdhari; Mooring – Capt Ambekar; Gangway Damage & Crane Damage – Capt D’cruz. The Engineers focussed on Boiler Damages – Mr Atre; M/E Damages & A/E Damages – Mr Panchal & Mr Sankaran; Cargo Pump Damages – Mr Atre & Mr Sankaran; Bunker Overflow – Mr Atre; & BTWS – Mr Panchal.
This 2-day seminar proved to be different than the usual ones, as both the presenters and attendees were actively involved in the deliberations and quickly finding a solution to every issue that was pointed.
