Navigational safety has always been the topmost priority for any organisation, so is in the case for Chellaram Shipping Private Limited. On 13th June Mr Rajiv Jalota, Director General of Shipping; and Chairman, Mumbai Port Authority inaugurated the new Class A Navigation Simulator at Chellaram office in Mumbai.
Esteemed dignitaries present were Mr Ashish Sinha, Deputy Director General of Shipping; Capt Ajit Topno, Nautical Surveyor-cum-Deputy Director General of Shipping; Mr Sanjeev Mehra, Honorary Secretary, The Institute of Marine Engineers (India) Mumbai Branch (IMEI); Mr SM Rai, IMEI; Capt Shiv Halbe, CEO, Maritime Association of Shipowners Shipmanagers and Agents (MASSA); and Capt Kamal Chadha, MD, Marex Media Pvt Ltd to name a few.
Capt Mahendra M Kedare, Senior Manager (Manning and Training), Chellaram Shipping informed that the previous navigation simulator of 2005 could not be upgraded anymore due to compatibility issues.
“Hence, this new simulator would be exclusively used for in-house training to enhance the navigational skills of Deck Officers and Ratings. This product is found to comply with Class A, which is standard certification of Maritime Simulator. The above standard is based upon requirements in STCW convention Reg 1/12 and corresponding industry standard and guidelines,” articulated Capt Mahendra Kedare.
On the Maritime safety, “We comply the guidelines with respect to the training issued by the Directorate General of Shipping time to time, which is of great support,” stated Mr Sandeep Malankar, Director, Chellaram Shipping.
In his address, Mr Jalota expressed, “It’s a very proud moment for Indian shipping industry that such modern training methodologies and equipment are coming into the companies. This will definitely enhance the skills of the officers that will be getting trained on this modern equipment and devices.”
“I wish Chellaram Shipping continues to do this great work as they have been doing since 100 years and I wish them and seafarers who are getting trained here a bright future,” said Mr Jalota.
