In a devastating incident last week, a tanker ship transporting oil for the Bangladesh government-owned Padma Oil experienced multiple explosions, resulting in the loss of lives of crew and causing severe injuries.

The bodies of four crew members were recovered and over 13 people including nine policemen were admitted to hospitals with burn injuries.

According to reports the catastrophic events unfolded on Saturday 1st July when the initial blast rocked the ‘Sagar Nandini 2’ oil tanker, claiming the life of one crew member who was tragically found dead in the vessel’s engine room. The grim toll continued to rise as three additional bodies were recovered on Monday 3rd July.

Following the explosions, the ill-fated oil tanker sank in the Sugandha River in Bangladesh’s Jhalakathi district, leaving a shattered community. However, determined efforts were made to salvage the situation by transferring a portion of the oil to another vessel, allowing the sunken tanker to resurface. Tragically, another blast occurred while unloading petrol from the tanker, resulting in severe burn injuries to over 13 individuals, including nine police officers.
