National Conference on Smart & Green Ports Held in Mumbai

The 1st National Conference on Smart and Green Technology in Port and Shipping Industry was recently held in Mumbai to deliberate upon the emerging trends and the need for the successful implementation.

 

The conference was organized by MIT College of Management, MIT-ADT University, Pune, which offers various educational courses, including its newly designed MBA in Port & Shipping Management. Dr Sunita Karad, Director ICT, Dean Engineering and Management, helmed the event.

 

The conference was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr Nitin Parab, Founder & CEO Conmove, and Keynote Speaker Capt Gajanan Karanjikar, along with several maritime industry professionals and academia making their presence felt.

 

The conference was evenly spread over the day; with three-Lecture sessions, along with a Panel Discussion in between making the conference interactive.

 

The conference began following the Indian rituals of lighting the Diyas at the hands of the dignitaries and guests present.

 

Thereafter Capt Amol Athalye, Principal Manet, MIT-ADT University Pune, welcomed the guests addressing them and briefing on the significance of the Conference with stress on Technology development vis-à-vis sustainability.

 

The Keynote Speaker Capt Gajanan Karanjikar touched the right notes asking the audience what it takes to be SMART and given a choice what should be the first technology or relevant path to sustainability.

 

The Chief Guest Mr Parab elaborated on the logistics and the need of the hour to reduce the higher cost of Indian logistics that extends upto 14% of GDP as compared to less than 8% in other nations.

 

Prof. Dr. Sunita Karad also made a presentation focusing on the current status of Maritime education along with a summary of the shipping industry for the benefit of students and the general audience.

 

Port planning and development involves the strategic processes, data collection and forecasting, stakeholder relations-management in ports, and the evaluation of port development plans and projects.

 

Discussions about the future of sustainable shipping and cutting-edge port technologies were discussed across sessions; panel discussions and interactive lecture sessions led by industry professionals were highly knowledge-packed. (As mentioned alongside)

The conference also witnessed a plethora of Industry professionals, Technology providers, and potential partners connecting during the break and was one of the highlights of the event.

 

Engaging panel discussions and interactive sessions by industry leaders and experts, with thought provoking successful implementation strategies made it a must attend program. It was during such panel discussions that one could understand the challenges ahead in establishing Smart-Green ports and how important it is for one to walk the talk.

 

As it was aptly put by one of the moderators; Smart Ports- Great intent, but a long way to go!
