India is very important to Panama: Burillo

The Guest of Honor, HE Mrs Yasiel Burillo, the Ambassador & Consul General of Panama to India, highlighted the significance of India to her nation at the ATPI Marex Global Summit India 2023.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the Summit, Burillo said, “India is very important to my country Panama and to the rest of the world.”

She admitted to being fascinated by the country from the day she arrived first in the year 2020. Since then she has been regularly touring India meeting customers of over 40 companies, for they share not only business interests but as she put it: “Indians in general are very warm, caring and good at maintaining relations.”

Burillo emphasized, “India plays a significant role in the maritime industry and is very important the world over. Please consider the Panamanian Maritime Authority as your friendly neighbor.”

Focusing on the importance of shipping in business & trade she highlighted that there were about 45,000 Indian seafarers working on the Panamanian fleets and that Indian seafarers due to their excellent skills are always considered one up over their counterparts.

She also acknowledged that the Indian Shipping companies were very good in treating their seafarers and was impressed by their concern for the wellbeing of seafarers and their families, especially during the COVID, as well as the usual psychological support provided by them.

She was equally impressed by the technological advances with the simulators and the simulator training & qualifications given by maritime schools and academies in India.

Talking about Panama, Burillo spoke about Mr. Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, the first Latin American elected to Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, who is committed to putting people and planet first.

She also informed that the Panama Canal operation is gradually expected to return back to normalcy soon.
