Coimbatore Marine College (CMC) witnessed a momentous event on November 24, when it bid farewell to the talented graduates of the ETO-39 and GME-44 batches with 55 cadets. The leave-taking event, which was attended by the distinguished Chief Guest, Mr Shyam Jagannathan IAS, Director General of Shipping, was a great celebration of academic accomplishments and nautical prowess. As a symbol of respect and admiration, the arrival of the Chief Guest was marked by a Guard of Honour.

The Principal of CMC, Capt Sasidharan Manikkath, presented the academic growth of the institution, which was followed by the Ship in Campus visit.

The dignitaries lit the ceremonial lamp, symbolising the dispelling of darkness and the quest of knowledge, which was followed by the welcoming address delivered by C/E. S. I. Nathan, Chairman of CMC Group.

The Chief Guest officially launched The Gangway Mobile App, which aims to facilitate STCW/Modular Course reservations for seafarers, marking a step forward in maritime education and technology. A movie was also shown to provide information on the Gangway Mobile App.

C/E Balakrishnan Kumar, Head of GME, and Mr. Karthick, Head of ETO, offered thorough insights into the courses. Cadets Deepak Yadav and Abhishek Pandey offered lengthy testimonials about their academics and self-development experiences at CMC. The certificate was individually presented to the institution’s graduates in recognition of their hard work.

Mr Jagannathan, IAS, presented his expertise and urged the graduates to pursue new opportunities. He went on to say that the cadets should demonstrate that they are exceptional leaders by venturing into uncharted territory. He emphasised India’s accomplishments in the maritime industry over the last decade, as well as Vision 2030. The transformative strategies used in the area, such as Green Commitment, were also presented in order to attract students to pursue professions with Indian Vessels. Women mariners’ contributions to the field of shipping and seafarers’ well-being were highlighted. He went on to explain the responsibilities of future seafarers by focusing on the vision and the methods for accomplishing it.

Capt Manikkath proposed the vote of thanks.
