The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has confirmed Captain B K Tyagi as Chairman & Managing Director of The Shipping Corporation of India Limited.

Having graduated from Meerut University, Capt Tyagi joined SCI in 1990 as a trainee nautical officer and sailed on board various ships in different ranks including as a Master. He came ashore in 2004 and served in the chartering, vetting, technical, and fleet personnel departments.

Captain Tyagi as current Director has been looking after the liner and passenger services division at SCI. His appointment as CMD is for a duration of 5 years from the date of his taking charge till his superannuation, or until further notice.

SCI has been functioning without a full-time CMD since 1 June this year. After screening and interviewing 3 candidates for the post, Captain B K Tyagi was picked by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), to be the next CMD of SCI.

SCI is in the process of being privatized by the government.
