Capt Sankalp Shukla, Chairman FOSMA, and Dr (Capt) Shashank Jahagirdar, Director MASSA, have been elected to the Recruitment and Training Committee of the International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC), for a period of two years. The elections were held on April 25.

IMEC, a large International Association representing over 260 maritime employers located all over the world, is engaged in negotiating fair terms of employment for seafarers globally, as well as supporting various training initiatives, whereas The IMEC Recruitment and Training Committee,  established in 2006,  is responsible for overseeing the various IMEC training initiatives.

The Recruitment and Training committee is made up of a team of elected IMEC Member representatives, who collectively contribute their extensive wealth of experience and knowledge to guide and support the direction of future training projects.

Dr Jahagirdar said, “Shortly we will have the first committee meeting involving new members, recently inducted in the R&T committee. While ensuring all the existing projects are executed in a timely manner, various new initiatives and projects will be undertaken to benefit seafarers in particular and the industry as a whole.”

At present, there are three exclusive training programmes viz, IMEC Cadet Training, IMEC Ships Rating Programme, and IMEC Engineering Bridging Course.

Apart from the IMEC Cadet Training, each course is entirely funded by the International Maritime Training Fund (IMTF) and is available for Members to nurture future talent on board their vessels.
