The Company of Master Mariners of India (CMMI) is to have its Nashik Chapter inaugurated very soon. The formation of the Nashik Chapter was approved in a recent CMMI Court meeting held on March 28, 2023.
Everyone present applauded the efforts of the Warden, Capt Gajanan Karanjikar, a Master & G-20 Consultant, with over 17 years of sailing experience, for conceiving of this thought and taking the initiative to form the chapter with the objective of connecting with seafarers and bringing Nashik on India’s Maritime Map.
Capt Karanjikar thanked the court for approving the Nashik Chapter. The Office bearers at the Nashik Chapter would be Capt Gajanan Karanjikar- Chapter Chairman, Capt Kishor Dinde – Dy Chairman, Capt Nikhil Khot – Secretary, Capt Swani – Dy Secretary, and Capt Vikram Sambyal- Treasurer.
Speaking about the Chapter, Capt Karanjikar said, “Nashik is developing infrastructurally well, but it doesn’t have any port. However, the city boasts over 35 master mariners and with the proposed dry port in Niphad, along with infra projects connecting rails and road networks to the dry port, it’s the best time to have our presence felt.”
According to Karanjikar, various programmes for Mariners are planned connecting with society at large in Nashik, and the chapter shall soon start the monthly lecture meetings, and informal/ formal meetings with the industry to create greater awareness about the maritime industry.
They have also planned a community centre to be established. The Chapter will strive to excel in the overall manner in focusing especially on the youth by providing a career guidance cell manned by experienced Mariners who would visit schools in Nashik and neighbouring areas.
