National Maritime Day Celebration Committee (NMDCC), Delhi, under the aegis of the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, and Government of India organized the Maritime Awareness Walkathon to celebrate 59th National Maritime Day on 5th April.
Guest of Honor, MriShantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State, for Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways) Flagged Off the Maritime Awareness Walkathon.
Mr Thakur had joined the Maritime Awareness Walkathon with the dignitaries of the marine fraternities, like, Capt. R. Poswal Chairman NMDCC, Delhi, Capt Kharbanda, Capt Saurabh Varshney, and Mr Tushar Sharma.
Chief Guest, MrSarbanandaSonowal, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said “National Maritime Day highlights the importance of the maritime sector in India’s economic growth. I congratulate every seafarer. Our ministry has started working for green shipping to achieve the zero-carbon emissions target by 2070.”
He stressed the important contribution of Seafarers during the tough time of this pandemic and said that more than 2,10,000 Indian Seafarers served in Indian and foreign flagship in 2021, during the peak of Covid 19.
“Seafarers are the key personnel in making the country self-reliant and keeping the global supply chain operations,”MrSarbanandaSonowal concluded.
The minister also congratulated the stakeholder of the maritime fraternity at the 59 National Maritime Day.
