Every year on April 5, the National Maritime Day (NMD) is celebrated to create awareness in supporting safe and environmentally sound intercontinental commerce and the global economy.

This day focuses on defending and preserving the maritime zone of the country.

This year, Chitkara University School of Maritime Studies (CU SMS), Chandigarh celebrated NMD by organizing a Walkathon on the theme Net Zero Emissions. The students of B.Sc. Nautical Science walked all the way through the campus of Chitkara University, Punjab, and encouraged the students and faculty members to cut the greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible, with any remaining emissions to be re-absorbed by the atmosphere, oceans, and forests for instance.

Cadets also performed a skit outside the square one (canteen) to makepeople aware about “Why we celebrate National Maritime Day” and “What is Net Zero Emissions”. This was followed by annual Sports Day.
