Promoting Safety, Sustainability & Responsible practices

 

Mr Sudhansh Pant, the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India visited the Alang Shipyard on 5th May. The visit was a significant step in strengthening the collaboration between the government and the ship recycling industry to promote safety, sustainability, and responsible practices.

 

Alang is a significant hub of the ship recycling industry, known for being one of the largest and busiest ship recycling yards globally. Mr Pant’s visit to the yards was aimed at getting a first-hand understanding of the ship recycling operations and safety measures implemented in the yards. He also assessed the challenges and opportunities present in the industry and encourage the adoption of best practices to ensure safety and sustainability.

 

He inspected various ship recycling operations carried out at the Bansal yard and interacted with the ship recyclers.

 

He emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety regulations to prevent accidents and protect the environment. The importance of the adherence to safety regulations cannot be overstated, as ship recycling can be a hazardous process if not carried out with the utmost care.

 

Ship recycling in India is an essential sector of the economy, contributing significantly to employment opportunities and economic growth. Shri. Sudhansh Pant acknowledged the importance of the ship recycling industry in India’s economy and stressed the need for sustainable and responsible practices in the industry.
