Seaspan recently organized an awards night on the sidelines of its Fleet Officers’ Meet on 06 & 07 October at Mumbai at the ITC Maratha Hotel, Mumbai. The event was to recognize and acknowledge the support of its crew and staff, for “without them the company couldn’t have attained such success”.
Capt Manoj Gandhi, Fleet Personnel Director, Seaspan said, “Awards are necessary as everyone is equally responsible for the company’s performance, and have contributed collectively & individually towards its growth and success.”
He stated that the company had organized its Fleet Officers’ Meet in Constanta, Romania on 02nd and 03rd October as well as in Mumbai, with the theme ‘Shaping our Culture’. The meet focused primarily on addressing concerns over HSQE issues and setting the culture with the major Fleet expansion in 2024.
A ship’s crew is as essential to the ship as air is to breathing. They are the lifeblood of maritime operations. The quality of their work keeps the ship safe. Their expertise, dedication, and teamwork are what keep the ship afloat.
Seaspan is the world’s largest independent charterer-owner & manager of containerships, with truly global operations employing over 5,500 people at its offices in Hong Kong, Canada, India, and onboard a fleet of 136 vessels operated.
While the predominant nationalities of seafarers remain Ukrainian, Romanian, Filipino, Chinese, Sri Lankan, South African and Turkish, Indian seafarers comprise about 35% of its global workforce.
On the women workforce in Seaspan shore staff, Capt Jairam informed that 45% are in corporate and 25% in operations and 33% women overall and there is a big focus to increase the women seafarers on board with various initiatives including schloraships and we are focused on a broader outreach program for female seafarers in entry-level positions. While this is a longer-term strategy, it demonstrates our commitment to establishing this talent pool and will pay off longer term in our shore-based operations.
