Strive for Excellence

Training Ship Rahaman hosted a grand passing out parade for its graduates from BSc Nautical Science, IMU, DNS, GP, CCMC, TYBACA & TYMHS on 26th April. Various dignitaries from the shipping industry, including Fleet Management, K Line Management, Maersk Fleet Management, MOL Synergy Maritime, Anglo Eastern Ship Management, Scorpio Marine Management, V Ships Crew, Coral Nautical, et al graced the event. It was an amazing show filled with enthusiasm and extraordinary performances by the passing out batches.

Capt Deepak Correa, Chief Operating Officer of Elegant Marines Services shared his personal experience of being a cadet 35 years ago and how hard work and dedication had helped him reach his current position. He urged the passing out batches to strive towards excellence and make the most of the opportunities that come their way. He also reminded them that they too could one day be in his position, inspiring and motivating the next batch of students.

At the investiture ceremony, the current Academy Captain Cadet Piyush Dhurde handed over the captain chain to the next Academy Cadet Captain Cadet Sahil Joshi. The students were honoured with various awards and cash prizes, such as the Aziz Aladin trophy, Wallem’s Trophy, Dr Shaista Sanai trophy, TS Rahaman rolling trophy, and several overall excellence awards.

In his vote of thanks address, Capt (Dr) Ashutosh Apandkar, the Superintendent, and Secretary Governing Council of TS Rahaman inspired the students by saying that a ship is safe in the harbour, but that is not what she’s built for. Similarly, the students trained at the academy are in a safe harbour, but now is the time for them to go out into the vast ocean, where they will face many challenges as a ship faces.

The parade is not just a celebration of the passing out batches but an acknowledgment of the hard work put in by the faculty and staff of TS Rahaman. It was an opportunity for the students to reflect on their journey and the lessons they had learned along the way. It was also a platform for the shipping industry to recognize and appreciate the talent and potential of the passing out batches.
