65 MANET – Student blog Preparation for placements
0

It is said that Rome was not built in a day, the same goes with the placements, and it’s not a one-day thing.

After my 12th board exams, I had my mind set on Merchant Navy. The urge of trying something that only a few accomplished, ignited the spark in me. During the college selection process, I came across MANET. The professors, the workshops, and laboratories installed for a better understanding of the subject compelled me to be a part of such an academy.

I also had a conversation with the seniors and found out that it’s the place where I will get an opportunity to explore and add a lot to myself to a great extent.

Being here at MANET, it’s incredibly an awesome experience. The infrastructure, academics, training, schedule and placements are best for the cadets. There’s a lot to learn in this academy and it’s definitely a place where one can train and make themselves the best mariner.

Placement is important aspect and what’s of most importance is the preparation for it. Few points I would like to put forth which are according to me the best ways of preparing for placements are:

Do not wait for the announcement of recruitment round. Start preparing from the day you have decided to get placed. Always be updated with the technical topics and new invention in your field. Technical topics cannot get covered in a week or so. So, prepare day by day to strengthen your technical side. Do not take   opinion a day before interview to avoid confusion during interview. Take proper rest a day before interview so as to have a good mental state while answering in the interview.

Make a good eye contact with the interviewer while answering to any questions. This thing reflects your confidence. Put a natural smile on your face for the whole duration of interview. Have a medium pitch of voice. Neither too low nor too high. If you got anxious internally and start fidgeting with your hands then put your hands on thigh. This will not let the interviewer know about your anxiety. If you feel anxious during interview then lower your hand from table and press wrist of one hand with thumb of another. This will help to release out anxiety. Always have presence of mind while answering.

Always try to give diplomatic answer for HR questions. Always understand the question first, take some seconds then formulate a relevant, short and informative answer for any technical question. The most important thing is to keep yourself updated to the surrounding and the maritime field. It’s a long process, so start from day one.
