The Technology in Maritime (TIM) Conference held at the Meluha The Fern Hotel in Mumbai on 29th July 2022, organized by The Naval Connection, and spearheaded by Captain Shoukat Mukherjee, was indeed a gathering of mariners and shipping veterans & technocrats who have been the drivers of several ground-breaking technological innovations.
Addressing the august gathering Captain Dhruv Sawhney CO-FOUNDER & CEO of Shipskart, spotlighted his company, which in the next two years is primed to be India’s biggest ship supply e-commerce platform for the maritime and offshore domains.
“Every year”, said Sawhney, “A ship spends around half a million dollars on procurements like provisions, consumer products, spare parts, and other commodities. I realized that we had many e-commerce platforms for every industry, but in the maritime industry there was no e-commerce market place and that’s where the idea of Shipskart was born.”
Sawhney, who’s a passionate maritime leader with 14 years of sailing experience, focuses on employing great technology, innovation, and scalability in the marine space, while he strongly believes that no dream is big or small, and any good idea can lead to innovation.
“As a seafarer, I always dreamt of ordering from an app and so wanted to build an Amazon-like procurement platform where we would have the ships, companies, and vendors, all on a single platform.
“Today, we have reached the stage where the maritime industry widely uses Shipskart, and the captains are directly ordering from our app. They can track the order in real-time, analyze spending patterns, and monitor how the ship is spending at which port and in what category, which is like a complete bank statement.
“You have online quotations, real-time bidding, and live chatting features along with budget and inventory management systems. We handle the technical aspects of bulk requisition and act as an intermediary between the procurement team and vendors, right up till the time of delivery in different time zones.”
“Since the captain, requisition or procurement managers, earlier never had any kind of clarity of what they were ordering and what the ships would be delivered, Shipskart now has products with the brand names, and actual product pictures, to see exactly what you order and exactly what you get.”
This e-commerce leader is set for huge expansions and opening of warehouses pan India and widening their services across the globe, which will be like shops open 24×7.
With offices presently in India, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Bangladesh, Shipskart provides services to around 100 ports across the globe.
