0

IMBA organised a skit on Commercial shipping Operations at the ITM College, Dehradun on 7th June. It is for the first time in India that such a skit has been organised by any college. The PGDM students of IMBA College actively participated in this skit where they played the role of Ship Captain, Ship Owner, Ship Charterer, etc.

The skit depicted the shoreside operations of the shipping and how commercial operations are carried out from the offices in India, Singapore, London and Athens. The merchant navy that we know is just the tip of the iceberg while the commercial shipping which is the backbone of the shipping is hidden. The skit is an attempt to raise awareness among students about the new career options in shipping where they don’t have to go to the ship and can work in the shipping divisions of companies like Reliance, Adani, and Tata in the offices based out of India and abroad.

Capt Kunal Uniyal, CEO, IMBA said “It is important for students to know the practical aspects behind the theory they learn and skits like this are a new-age learning technique to get the students ready for the industry from day one. Shipping is a vast field with a lot of career options for fresh graduates. Skit like this will help them to explore a new career option.”

He emphasised that it is high time when we need to create a positive atmosphere in the shipping industry so that more and more women can choose shore-based commercial shipping as a career option. There is a serious shortage of women candidates in this industry and with proper guidance, this gap can be filled.

The skit was a huge success with CEOs, MDs and Directors of leading shipping companies in India, Singapore and London attending it. This included CEO of Wiz Bulk, Howe Robinson Partners, Transbulk, Sharaf shipping, Ikewizi Mining, and Bulkcom to name a few. Among the dignitaries present were the Registrar of ITM Mr Ruchi Thapliyal and Principal Dr Anju Thapliyal. General Manager of IMBA Ms Neha Kannojiya and the Academic Coordinator Ms Chandani Hariramani were also present.
