35 HL – MANET Organizes interaction between the academia and shipping industry ‘MANET MILIEU’ 25th April

MAEER’s Maharashtra Academy of Naval Education and Training, (MANET) more popularly known as MANET Pune was founded in 2001 at the MIT, Kothrud Campus with a vision to train cadets to join Merchant Navy. It was the first urban college in Pune in 1980 and in 2015 it was developed into a University. On 8th April MANET organised a get-together ‘MANET- MILIEU’ an interaction between academia and shipping industry for the very first time at Hotel Radisson Blue, Mumbai. The get-together witnessed a pool of ace personalities from the shipping industry.

 

In his welcome address, Prof Dr Mangesh T Karad, Executive President and Vice Chancellor, MIT-ADT University, Pune gave an introduction to MIT. “We want to excel in every field and we are expanding in high speed. The University with more than 7500 employees has a great passion that helps in delivering the expectations of parents. Innovation led entrepreneurship is our core idea, and our students havedeveloped more than 40 start-ups and we really want to fulfil our youngster’s aspirations,” said Prof(Dr) Karad. MIT is trying to fulfil aspirations of young aspirations as well as the shipping industry too through its value added programs.

 

He also emphasized on youngsters not willing to join the merchant navy due to low salary. “We have to change the definition, we have to see how we can drag the students to maritime industry,” opined Prof (Dr) Karad.

 

“MIT has stood tall despite the challenges it has gone through in 2 decades,” said, Mr Subodh Devgaonkar, Principal, MANET. Additionally, he spoke about the contribution of shipping industry during the pandemic and explained the infrastructural facilities that is available in MANET, he also introduced all the faculties.

 

The event was also graced by the alumni of MANETwho shared their experience for being a MANETian.

“MANET symbolises a dream and it is a part of my life.It has a student friendly, systematic environment,” said Mr Chinmay Kalyankar. “The college taught us discipline that helped me a lot during pandemic when I was onboard,” said another alumni Mr Shatanu who will soon join as 3rd officer in Maersk. He advised others to take pride in how far you have come with a humble heart.

 

The institute has been awarded Very Goodrating by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) during the Comprehensive Inspection Programme (CIP) initiated by DG Shipping, Govt. of India. MANET Pune has also been approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Japan.

 

MANET has been awarded by Devang Mehta Foundation for “Education Leadership Award” in 2014. It has also been awarded the “Best Maritime Training Institute” by ABP News Channel in 2015. During a poll carried out in 2014, by the Times of India, for the best Engineering Colleges in India, MANET was the only Maritime Institute that was part of the top 100 colleges in India.
