Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Ministry of Port, Shipping & Waterways & Ministry of Ayush, Mr Sarbananda Sonwal visited International Maritime Institute, Greater Noida on 6th November 2023. 457 cadets from IMI attended this event.
During his visit, the Hon’ble minister had a special interactive session with the cadets in which he interacted with a number of girls and boys undergoing pre-sea training in the institute. He also inspected the various training facilities such as The Ship in campus, Engine Room Simulator, facilities for Survival Training, swimming pool, Fixed Fire Fighting installation, Firefighting mock up, Engine room workshops.
In his address Hon’ble Minister encouraged and motivated the seafarers and cadets to put in the hard work and make a successful career in Merchant navy. He emphasized the achievements and the growth in the shipping sector in the last 9 years. The minister said that the aim of his ministry was to make India the foremost seafaring nation and have at least 20 percent Indian seafarers in the world in the near future.
He further explained in detail about the groundbreaking success of GIMS 2023. He emphasized the growing numbers of lady seafarer and various incentives and scholarship program of the administration for the girl cadets.
The minister said the sole purpose of his visit was to motivate and encourage the cadets.
Thereafter, Mr Sonowal planted a tree in the campus to commemorate his visit.
