On Tuesday, 28th March, a student delegation from World Maritime University (WMU), an institution under the aegis of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), visited Seven Islands Shipping Limited – which is a 21 year old Mumbai-based liquid seaborne logistics company.

Capt Thomas Pinto, Chairman & Managing Director, along with his team consisting of Capt Pradeep Correa, Chief Operating Officer; Mr Warren Pinto, Chief Financial Officer; Capt Philip Mathews, Head of Fleet Personnel Management; and Capt Nimish Mhatre, Senior General Manager, ISM, to name a few, warmly welcomed the students.

The senior officials of Seven Islands enlightened the delegation with comprehensive presentations that gave an overview of the company operations; safety culture and latest software. To which the students were quite intrigued and dived ahead with lots of questions to grasp more knowledge about the operations of Seven Islands, so that they may imbibe it in their maritime administration back home.

As part of their Maritime Safety and Environment Administration curriculum, the delegation was on their 5-day maiden visit to India; wherein their visits were to the Indian Coast Guard, meeting the stakeholders, maritime training institutes, ports, Indian Register of Shipping, and the Indian maritime Administrative body, that provided a holistic view on how safety is administered on vessels that are in international waters.

“We are grateful to the Indian maritime administration for their proactive support to make this visit a grand success.

“We would also like to compliment the Indian maritime administration for their unstinted support to the shipping industry during the testing times of Covid-19, as apprised by Seven Islands in their presentation,” expressed Dr Anish Hebbar, Assistant Professor, MSEA, WMU.
